Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen
The Challenge
Mercure were re-branding selected hotels as M Galleries – a collection of high-end hotels all around the world. The new brand had to reflect the boutique nature and history of the site. Their strapline was to be ‘Re-crafting the conventional’.
The Solution
Taking the actual hotel as inspiration a highly memorable and elegantly classic logo was designed. The overall shape was taken from an original stained glass window on one of the stairwells coupled with the initials of the hotel in a style echoing a stone masons engraving by the front door.

The Results Were Amazing
Mercure were delighted with their new logo. The design of the logo is inspired by the many aspects of Ardoe House: the stonemasons chiseled initials at the main entrance, the stained glass window design on the stairs, the black diamonds from the Ogston coat of arms and the traditional – yet modern – treatment of the typography references the Ogston and Tennant historic associations.
